As many of you may know, there is another Merle Chihuahua board in town. Many of you have been there and may still be members of that Board. You are absolutely welcome here as well. If you have been to that Board, you have experienced or seen that that forum is not exactly one of freedom of expression without fear of retribution. After seeing and experiencing that first hand, it occurred to me that we needed a gentler, kinder Board where ALL viewpoints would be welcome without fear of harassment, and where ALL are free to learn. Out of that spirit, this Board was born! A discussion board where people can actually discuss, not just be preached to, and a place where those who really want to learn about breeding and/or owning these beautifully colored Chihuahuas can come and do just that, without judgment!
If you have read this post previously, you know it has changed. When I first started this Board I was quite warmed from heated words and yes, I was hurt. But I realized that what I really wanted to bring to Board was not about the other Board at all, but about what is really important here, which is simply to educate in a supportive environment! And so, this post has changed to be my mission statement and my heartfelt desire for the direction of this Board.
There will simply be no flaming, harassing, or cruelty tolerated here. Even if you disagree and are opposed to the breeding of merle Chihuahuas, that's okay, just please be respectful about it, as ALL are welcome to discuss things in an adult manner here! I realize that when people feel strongly about things that discussions can get a little emotional, and that is actually simply a product of strong convictions (something I truly do understand!), and that's okay! But there is no reason to be sarcastic or mean or just plain hateful. If it gets to that point, please just walk away. And remember, a closed mind has no way of letting in the light!!
You know the sayings about a blessing in disguise about God opening a window? I believe that is what happened through this experience, and through that open window I saw something that I hope the rest of you will embrace along with me: The REAL Merle Chihuahua Discussion Board!! Emphasis on Discussion!
It occurs to me that there may be from time to time the desire to debate registries and to make that the issue, and there may be those who will hope to discount the merits of this Board because not everyone here is an AKC show breeder in the making. Please understand that that discussion is beyond the scope of this forum. While all who know me know that I choose to breed only AKC dogs with the hopes of my own bred by Champions one day (maybe the first merle Champion!), this I feel is MY life's calling. Yet, if I truly love my breed I want for ALL of those who are breeding Chihuahuas (merle or otherwise) anywhere -- whether for show or to simply be a loving family pet -- to do so in the most knowledgeable way possible and that is why I feel that it is important to not exclude ANY breeder for we are ALL here to learn and to hopefully gain whatever knowledge necessary in order to breed a better Chihuahua! All Chihuahua breeders are welcome here, period.
Finally, breeders of other merle breeds are very welcome to join us and share any experiences they have had with this beautiful pattern, as to date there is not a lot of hard historical data on merle Chihuahuas to draw from. Well, not yet anyway!
Now, let's all learn something and have some fun! Oh, yes, and play nice!
